Text banking is fast and effective because a lot of people communicate by text instead of answering their phones. You might text 1000 or more people in an hour with an open rate of 90%+ (who can ignore a text?) and a response rate of 10-24%! Phone banking and canvassing are great for face-to-face or voice-to-voice, but texting provides direct communication with a lot of voters very quickly. It's a better return on your time investment from the comfort of your own home, or while you're on the go.
Some campaigns might run their own in-house text campaign like Beto O’Rourke did for his Senatorial campaign and his current Presidential campaign. So you can always contact a campaign to see if they have any texting opportunities.
For some, getting started is the hardest part. But, once you’re setup it can become quite addicting. And for those that need a little hand-holding, check out Red2Blue. They have the best training and hands-on support of any organization out there. If you become a Texting Pro there, you will be able to drop into any campaign with any organization and text like a superstar.
SIDE NOTE: Not all text campaigns are created equal. Some can be poorly run on a janky text platform. And not all organizations operate the same. You’ll find your favorites, but you might have to try a few until you find what works for you.
